Wen-Hsing Cheng wins outstanding scientific publication award
In recent ceremonies, Wen-Hsing Cheng won the Outstanding Scientific Publication Award from the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station. His article was published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry and entitled "Selenoprotein H suppresses cellular senescence through genome maintenance and redox regulation." This research paper used cutting-edge technologies to address a novel hypothesis of selenoprotein functions during the aging process. By employing reverse genetics to suppress the expression of selenoprotein H, Dr. Cheng's group demonstrated the specific role of this selenoprotein in the inhibition of oxidative stress, oxidative DNA damage, and cellular senescence. Dr. Cheng's group opened up a new direction of selenium and aging intervention and has great potential to positively impact the aging society.
